I was given the opportunity to be the technical editor for the second edition of Sams Teach Yourself Android Application Development in 24 Hours. This allowed me to read and follow the book from start to finish (with the added fun of making sure all of the code examples worked as described). What I found was a very well written book that steps you through the entire cycle of Android development.
From the beginning you learn about getting your development workstation up and going with Eclipse and the Android SDK. Of course you also learn how to setup emulators and how to deploy your apps to them. As you go through the book you learn just about everything you could need to create your own Android app, the example used throughout he chapters of the book is a game called 'been there done that'. Finally at the end of the book there is even a discussion on how to setup an account with Google so you can deploy your new application to the Android marketplace.

You can pickup a copy of the book Sams Teach Yourself Android Application Development in 24 Hours (2nd Edition) in electronic or paper version from Amazon.
